I made a few minor changes to the color block before making a small edition of twelve prints. The color is a shade lighter and I added just a little bit of yellow to the ink I used on the proofs making the tone a bit greener.

The third of four proofs that I finished last night was the best I printed. This one has the lightest background color and I may go with a tone that is just a little lighter for an edition run. I will carve into the color block just a little bit more before the final printing.

Down in Massachusetts at the in-laws. I found a little view of Mt. Monadnock by a swamp near some power lines. The only thing I thought you could see around this lake is houses. Life and nature is full of surprises, but it is still not one of my better drawings.

I have a tendency to use outines with my woodcuts and am surprised that this habit has worked its way into my monotypes. At times I want to surpress this style but have realized that I should embrace it instead.

Solar Plate Etching

This plate proved difficult to wipe and I made a few errors in it's creation. I used tin snips instead of a guillotine paper cutter and created a raised edge on the lower right corner that is catching ink. This may flatten out after a few more runs through the press. Next time I may not use a drawing that has such a dominant texture pattern.

I worked two copies with hi-lighters and this was the best of the two. It gave me a template for the color block and a clear idea what the final print will look like.

The block printed beautifully and I have cleaned up half of the block already. A little more carving and this block will be ready for a final proof. Then I can transfer the print to a second block for color and make a small edition.

There were two bands of color in the sky today that were interesting. A couple of horizontal stripes of Cobalt Blue in the lower half of the sky and an area of Prussian Blue above the puffy cloud line.

Plenty of yellow ochre, brownish red and grey in the foreground marking the coming of spring.

A warm spring sun brings out the dry ochre color of the field.

The tall pines are a dark silhouette against a blue fade of sky with just a hint of thin clouds.

Grey shrub in the foreground wait for new buds.
