Night Watch

Manitoba

5"XA"

There is something really satisfying about working very quickly on an idea or visual concept. As if I am a racehorse at the start of the gun and you put everything into the first three minutes of the race.

Down by the River

Monotype

5"x7"

This was the last print of the evening session and I decided to work back into the ghost. I used a bit of black and leftover color on my palette. It was a fun and quick way to end the evening.

Summer River

July 20, 2006
Watercolor and Pen
7"x5"

Summer River

Water cuts the earth
and goes
where its will takes it.

This is my first attempt at making a watercolor painting in many years. Since I started the MFAIA program at Goddard I have worked almost exclusively in black and white as I wanted to step back from the work of my recent past and rethink what I have been doing.

It has been a great experiment so far and all of this next semester I plan to do all of my sketches with watercolor and pen until the cold of December freezes my water in the field. What will prove really interesting is what kind of effect this has on my prints, especially the monoprints.

Night Watch

Charcoal Pencil

3.25"x4.75"

Night Watch

In the high field

I was early

And the moon late

Later than I would be out this night.

The tall grass was dark and hot

mosquito's and fireflies

Lit the blue haze

Of trees, field,

And clouds.

Morning Haze

July 3, 2006

Charcoal Pencil on Paper

4.5"x5"

Stopped on my way to work this morning to make a little sketch. The air was still cool but the soon to be hot and humid day lent a nice haze to everything. It was a nice way to start my day.

Plastic Factory, State II

Woodblock print
5"x7"

The is the 2nd and final state of the print before I start to carve the color block. A few minor changes were made to the water and the trees but overall the block did not change much.
