Block and Letterpress Print

11"x7"

Here is the first proof off of the Line-O-Scribe sign making machine that I bought off of ebay earlier this month. This is the third of three proofs that I pulled and the potential is great with this machine. I am excited about using it to just print my blocks and then if you add a poem like I did here the possibilities are limitless. I plan to make a small edition with three color block in addition to the black and white keyblock and text you see here.

Wooodblock Print

3.25"x5.25"

I pulled this old block on the antique Line-O-Scribe sign making machine at SPA to get used to using this kind of machine as mine should be arriving in the next couple of days. This block was carved on a scrap piece of wood from a furniture company in Burlington. It is an inch high and just barely cleared the roller on the machine. It proved a little problematic but still worked pretty well.

Monotype
5"x7"
When I pulled the paper away from the plate I saw that it was unevenly inked and I abandoned this print idea. Originally I wanted to leave a lot of black and then work back into the ink left on the ghost, using the large areas of tone. You can clearly see the vertical line of ink in the middle of the image so I abandoned the idea.

Monotype

7"x5"

There was not enough ink on the plate to pull a decent ghost image but I worked into the plate with some additional ink and the effort was not a complete waste of time.

Monotype

7"x5"

This was the first print of the night at SPA and it came out pretty well for a first effort. The inking of the plate was a little light and I had problems all night getting a really good black onto my plate.

Charcoal pencil

6.5"x7.5"

Went down to the river behind the post office this weekend as it was a beautiful sunny fall day with just a nip of cold in the air.

October

Two days of rain

Swelled the river to a point

That I could not cross

Settling for a familiar view

I save the new territory

For another day
