Montpelier Winter Scroll

March 2008

Six multiple plate reduction prints

37"x11"

This is my second attempt at figuring out exactly how I wish to present and build these hanging scrolls of multiple prints. I used wheat paste to glue a backing sheet onto the finished scroll. This helped make the scroll a stronger object but the glue wrinkled the paper and caused it to buckle in more than one place. You can just barely see the many problems in this terrible photograph. Right now I am working on a third scroll and have created an exact duplicate backing that will not be glued, instead I am in the process of quilting the backing panel to the front panel with four prints. This should work very well and I have ordered some plexiglass rods to hang the scroll on.

2-Plate Monotype

8"x10"

This print has some interesting things happening and I might try this one again next month as well. I think the dark clouds would have been more effective if I had blue around them in the sky with no color under the black ink.

2-Plate Monotype

8"x10"

I purchased some plexi plates to continue my 2-plate color experiment and am pleased with the results. There are a few problems with some of the color, the green of the big tree bleeds into the clouds. I plan to re-work this image next month as I plan to work a copy of this for a large block print. I'll take the new drawing and try a color monotype from there.

Winter Lake

March 5, 2008 Charcoal pencil 6"x7.75"

I was so frustrated with my first attempt that i moved out from under the trees and reworked the image.

Winter lake

Summer houses

Docks and covered boats

Clot the shoreline

Leaving little room

For summer Loons

And winter artists

With no trespassing

As the rule

Rain and Snow

Went out after a wet snow storm to make a sketch down at my inlaws. The wind was blowing wet snow everywhere and my charcoal ran.
Dripping wet snow
Blows across my paper
A muddy charcoal mess
Is all I have to show
For a winters walk
Along a suburban lake

Catamount Trail

February 2008 Charcoal Pencil 6.5"x7.5"

The Occasional roar of the snow machine

Is the only sound I hear

Besides the soft rhythmic "whoosh" of my skis

As I search for an unspoiled view

On the Catamount Trail

In the heart of Winter
