Chiaroscuro print

3"x4"

This past weekend I carved the color block for this and printed a color proof edition while participating in the VT Crafts Council open Studio Weekend.

Chiaroscuro Print

This was actually the first color choice printed in the small proof edition I ran.

Chiaroscuro print and Letterpress

3.5"x4"

This little print can stand alone and I will probably frame one of these for an upcoming show at SPA. This will become the anchor for a new hanging scroll with the two alternate color choices sitting above, with this print on the bottom.

Plexi Drypoint

May 25, 2008

Plexi-Drypoint

7"x5"

I spent all of this past weekend printing during the VT Crafts Council Open Studio Weekend. The traffic was not nearly as good as in years past but I spent the weekend printing and this was a successful experiment. Having not tried a plexiglass drypoint before I wanted to see if i could pull them on my little table-top Holbein printing press. The plate pulled with a little difficulty but it was good enough that I plan to not only work this plate some more but will have my students at CCV this fall make some drypoint etchings.

3-Plate Blockprint

4"x6"

This print was pulled from an old key block and trying to work in my 'old' style was a little difficult. I also rushed the printing of the color block and am generally unhappy about this print. But the one good thing is I have decided to not re-print my old 4"x6" blocks on my new Line-O-Scribe printing press. Instead I will concentrate on new work and let the old blocks stay in a drawer where they belong.

Sping Meadow

April 6, 2008

Pencil on paper

4"x5"

Went out for a walk on my lunch break and wandered out behind the Goddard campus further than I have before. Found a beautiful series of hard to get to hay fields and many sketching opportunities. Wrote down some words as well as this sketch.

Bright sun brings the first hazy pink clouds

Stretching long and thin

Above a meadow

This meadow

Where fresh buds bloom and birds sing.

Bless this fine spring day

Sharpie and white-out on copy
3"x4"
Transformed this drawing into a cartoon for my next small linoleum block print. My plan at this point is to create as many of these 3"x4" landscapes as possible in the next year or two. Then take them and print them with poetry in a little art book. That would be in edition to framed prints and a possible hanging scroll project.
