Jockey Cap - Fryberg, Maine

September 23, 2012
Pencil on paper
5.5"x3.5"

Yesterday we took the boys and their two friends on a short hike in Freyberg, Maine just over the NH border.  Jockey Cap is a gigantic boulder with caves for the children and a beautiful panoramic view of the White Mountains and the Maine wilderness.  The hike was easy but rewarding for me as this sketch is good enough to contemplate turning it into a print of some kind.  At the moment I am thinking of transferring it to small copper plate that has been sitting with hard-ground on it waiting for some inspiration.

I might scratch this view onto the plate and go down to Radio Shack to get some Ferric Chloride to make an intaglio etching sometime soon.

Eidelweiss Beach

Went for a walk this weekend while vacationing in the White Mountains.  Eidelweiss Beach was a short walk from where were staying and while it was not the most dramatic scene, I felt compelled to sketch this simple view from a picnic table in the sun.

Tree Study

I spent the weekend with my family in Madison, NH at Pea's Porridge Pond.  It was a beautiful weekend and I attempted to sketch this little tree on a lonely peninsula while in a canoe.  The wind kept spinning me around but in the end this is a nice little sketch.

Tree Study,
Pea’s porridge pond,
Fish flap around me eating bugs.

The distant sound of cars is always present.

Scraggly little tree,
Early fall color everywhere.

Morse Farm

September 20, 2012
Pencil on paper
4"x5.25"

Took a drive up the county road to make a quick sketch.  It is such a nice day that I decided to walk out into this field I have driven by a hundred times and said to myself, I should sketch that view someday.  Well I did and wrote down some words as well.

Sunny fall day,
In the fields near Morse Farm,

Block print on Indigo paper

Pulled four proofs of this years holiday card.  Purchased 10 sheets of a nice handmade Indigo colored paper.  Hope to run a major portion of the edition this weekend with letterpress as well on the back of the print shown above.

Curtis Pond

September 6, 2012
Pencil on paper
3.5"x4.5"

Had to get away from work at lunch today and drove up the County Road to Curtis Pond and made a little sketch.  I did not have my usual 4B pencil and it came out a little light, especially in the sky.  Wrote down a few lines about a sleeping duck I encounter that was unusually tame.

Down at the dock on Curtis Pond,
I woke a sleeping duck,
In the noontime sun,
All by herself.

Went camping with my boys and extended family in the Groton State forest in VT this weekend.  Sunday morning I went for a swim with the boys and made this little thumbnail sketch.   Wrote down a few lines as well.
