Sabin's Pasture No. 1

March 7, 2012
Monotype
6"x9"

For my first monotype in a few months i was really pleased with this one as a first effort.  I have been contemplating how to created some work that has a new feel and like the methods I used last night.

I plan to meet with a fellow printmaker at SPA in Barre once a month and hope to create a new body of landscapes, but need to get out and make some drawings for new source material over the next few weeks.

This one was a good learning experience as I should have been watching my plate better.  I could see the copper coming through the color and should have known that those little dabs of plate would print white.

I may work into this over the weekend with some watercolor as I think this is a strong print.

The pure ghosot of the painted plate was not as strong as I had hoped.

Created this one mostly from my imagination but I used a drawing from my sketchbook as a starting point.

May send this one off to the Lessedra Annual in Bulgaria next week.

Next time I print I think I will follow the same methodology, creating a black and white monotype and then painting into the ghost.  Using oil paints instead of colored ink will make the difference in being able to get the color thin enough.

This was the last print of the night and the least successful.
