Riverside Farm

Went out for a long walk yesterday to test out my new hiking boots and make a little sketch.  It was cold and the river was patched with ice as it ran underneath me.  I made this sketch from the old bridge to Riverside Farms and am generally pleased with this effort.  It may become the concept sketch for next year's holiday card, hard to say as there is a lot of winter sketching left to be had, especially with the threat of 10-18" of snow over the next two days!  Time to break out the snowshoes!

This is the right hand panel for a triptych and the partner for the sketch below.  I plan to create the working cartoon reversal for all three plates this weekend and will share the drawing early next week or this weekend.

December Triptych Sketch

This time last year I made a sketch down by the river in the village of East Hardwick.  A copy of the sketch has sat on my studio table with a piece of plexi waiting for it to be made into a plate for printing.  But the last few weeks I have been thinking that it should be a triptych and went out over the holiday break and made this drawing for the left side of the piece.  I am really pleased with this one and think the three drawings together are shaping up nicely.

Letterpress Proof

Letterpress and blockprint

Last week I pulled this proof as a demonstration for my Graphic Design students.  I arranged the type and block on my antique Line-O-Scribe proof press and pulled enough for everyone in a matter of minutes.

25 Tritium Leaks Sketch

Yesterday I spent some time carving a block of linoleum that has been an ongoing conceptual project since 2005. At that time, I saw a news report about another Tritium leak at VT Yankee. I thought that it would work well with a longstanding series of drawings and prints about factories in a pastoral landscape setting.

This past spring I drove down to Vernon, NH and made a sketch along the banks of the Connecticut river and should finish carving the key-block in a couple of weeks. The sketch above is a schematic for an instillation piece that I hope to construct and exhibit sometime in the spring of 2013.
