Toy Town Proof 1

January 27, 2013
Carborundum print
4.5"x7"

This is my third attempt at a Carborundum print, which is suspending a metal grit in acrylic matt medium.  It holds ink like an aquatint but is very different.  I needed to add more grit to my medium and have since re-worked the plate with more medium.  After I pulled this proof I tried an experiment and rolled some color across the plate.  It printed pretty well and I am beginning to see how I can use this new process.

Toy Town Proof 2

January 27, 2013
Carborundum print with monotype
4.5"x7"

Pulled this second print as an experiment.  After I inked up the plate with black I rolled a pink tone across the plate, hoping the black would show through in the print.  I am a lot more satisfied with this print than the first one as it has this George Inness feel to it that I am grooving on.  I have added more Carborundum to the plate and will pull another proof later this week.  Next time, I will manipulate the rolled on ink to bring out some of the white of the paper.

Riverside Farm Cartoon

January 3, 2013
Pen, white-out and copy
4"x5"

Messed about with a copy of the drawing I did over the holiday break of Riverside Farm in East Hardwick, Vermont. I have a 4"x5" piece of plank-cut maple waiting to have this drawing transferred to the block.

I am not 100% happy with the clouds and a lot of this might be altered in the carving process.

Yankee Proof

December 30, 2012
Linoleum block print
9"x12"

Carved like a mad fiend over the holiday break and my fingers are sore and a little worse for the wear but it was worth it.  This is an ambitious block and I have to thin out a few of the lines, then print one more decent proof before I start to craft the color block.

Triptych Cartoon

January 1, 2013
Copy of original drawing, tape, white-out, pen and pencil
8"x14.25"

These three drawings are the working cartoon for a triptych print that I hope to create the plates for this winter.  I need to buy more plexi and plan to make three carborundum prints in January and print them the following month.

The scene is the frozen river down behind the Post Office in East Hardwick, near my home.
